I thought it was a cock up between Hornby England and the China factory. I read that somewhere but cant remember where.
I thought BR only named Evening Star and all the other 9fs were numbered only no names. O course maybe it was named after preservation. Thats another story.
So now I have 2 CockO the Norths. one LNER and 1 BR black.

There was no mistake like that. It is a presevation name so it depends what period you are modelling if anything. Black Prince was the name given to a 9F by the late great David Shepherd.

Would seem to be a rather an odd mistake to be made wouldn’t it, particularly as the plates are a different colour.


Your other version didn’t exist when the BR 9F was introduced so shouldn’t be run together if you are running a certain period.

Thanks all at least I know the reason for the naming of the 9f now. I really bought it because I liked it and as it turned out it is a wonderful slow runner. You could think it was DCC but it is not. One of my best creepers.

I only ever run DC and ultra slow running is never a problem. Depends on the controller.

I believe the Original Cock O' the North was a Gresley P2 loco.

Hornby produced it much to the delight of many a couple of years ago.

As Sandy was saying he now has the original P2 and the named 9F.

The P2 in that guise had long gone by the time the 9F appeared.
