On Saturday evening I received a telephone call telling me that one of my oldest and dearest friends, John, had died earlier in the week. John was a biker and about four years ago I had put a model figure of him onto my layout riding his motorbike with his typical red, black, red colour scheme (red helmet, black leathers, red bike). So as a tribute I took a photo today.
Biker
I only got back into model railways four years ago and at that time John didn't know anything about it, so I invited him around my house and told him that I had a surprise for him in my loft. He was intrigued and so we went upstairs and I proudly showed him my layout. SURPRISE! When he saw it, he giggled his unique giggly laugh. I had four trains going round and it looked quite impressive until - CRASH - one of the trains came off the rails and piled up. He giggled some more and said "What are you doing, re-enacting great derailments from history?"
John, thanks for all the good times.

Thank you for your condolences Cheshire Lines and Bulleidboy. It's a funny thing to wake up in the morning and think that a specific person is no longer in the world. We had been friends since primary school, and grew up together. That is assuming that we did grow up.
On a more cheerful note, I've got some photos to upload.

Still Coming and Going
Bay View
At some distant point in the future I'll redo the back scene that's in Bay View. I'd like to get rid of the straw coloured fields and get some more bushes and trees in the foreground. I also think that the bay is outlandishly small, so I'd like to lose the side of the bay on the left and just have water. Perhaps that'll be a job for the autumn. Will the Too-do list ever be completed?
