The Black 5 is just about finished. Fresh from the shop but with a discolored smokebox from a few fires in the boiler. The crew have been repainted but I left the coal alone. All that is needed now is to make a new side window windshield and fit to both sides - assuming I can find some clear plastic thin enough.

Hi Steve
Brilliant job. Thanks for a job well done. I'm only sorry you had so much messing around with the lining on the footplate. You've got some nice photos there for your advertising shots.
Thanks again
:D

The next project has landed - Class 31 repaint plus a spot of weathering.

The start has been delayed as I wanted to add some insulation to the roof in the workshop made more difficult by another bl##dy cold.

But now we’re ready to start - first steps will be to fully test it to make sure everything works as I should before a full stripdown, taking plenty of photos along the way to aid the eventual rebuild.
A change to BR blue and a new number - possibly a nameplate although a small yet I’ve not been able to confirm that it carried the name and blue paint at the same time

You do end up with a large tub of very small parts.

No going back now.

With all the various fittings removed I’ve filled and rubbed down the holes where there were spotlights at the front of the cab - five lights = ten small holes. I also removed the Network Rail logos from the sides with IPA and a cottonbud so they don’t show through the final paint finish.
A bit of masking and a quick spray of primer for the sides ready for the top coat.

Coat of blue. Bit tricky holding the doors open to do the reveal but I think I got it ok.
Harden off overnight, then check the finish in daylight.
