Snow here since about 1430 onwards. Was wierd how it came. It suddenly got cold and the snow came. Normally it is very cold and gets a little warmer when snow comes.
I've just come back in as I've wrapped the ducks in their little ducksheds. (E.g. just putting an old carpet and sheets of wood to stop the cold winds hitting them dead on and securing them in place with ladder straps or rachets etc. ).
If I need to get out I usually have two miles of snow covered roads before I get to a main road which is gritted. They naturally do main roads first and minor roads will be done later. Front wheel drive large Volvos were useless in the snow. The last time it was ice covered with snow I tried my current rear wheel drive Volvo. It was ok on the flat but could do with weight in the boot to attempt a hill. Last month I bought a pair of snowsox as I took a temporary job for the month and could buy them with a staff discount. I was assembling Christmas bicycles so If I couldn't come in (There was snow forecast and I was concerned) many people wouldn't get their bikes. Fortunately I didn't get to use them.
Nearly a decade or so ago we had one cold year with a lot of snow and the two mile drive remained a sheet of ice for a few weeks as salt was freezing into the ice (Which was once snow). They ran out of rocksalt so then used grit, which to be honest was far more effective. I had a Citroen AX (954cc) back then and it was brilliant in the snow. The only downside is it was like a sleigh going downhill. Was a case of using gears only and slightly applying the handbrake to straighten the car out. Uphill it easily climbed a 1 in 4 on snow or ice. Only once it failed. I went the long way round to get home. I was puzzled. Then I opened the boot and forgot that we had bought three sacks of coal which probably weighed more then the engine!

Glorious sunshine throughout the day. 1953 hours tonight, a slight snow fall. 1958 hours it had stopped.

Looks like the southern parts of the country are getting the snow and the North is just having cold frosty weather. .

We're expecting 37C on Sunday with a late cool change. Today is around 24C and nice and sunny. Last week one day got to 46C before a change, the day previous got to 37C.

Yes, we had a bit more last night. You can't see the grass through the snow, so about 3-4inches. I'm glad I hired the van yesterday. Looks nice, but I don't think I'll venture out much today - we do have a "corner" shop, so may walk down and get a paper.
