Nice picture Glencairn. That reminds me of the 50s when there were little engines pulling wagons in and out of of buildings around the London docklands when we were on our way to the Woolwick Ferry to visit my Uncle and Aunt on the South side of the river.
I loved that trip as a boy as we had to travel on Double Decker LT bus then a Trolly bus to the Ferry across river then a Tram to Shooters Hill.
I thought it was an adventure as a boy..............................John

I was talking about the Woolwich Ferry Brian. I always went down below to viewing platform where you could watch the huge steam engine working. We used to do that about twice a year It was the same Boat which went over to Dunkirk. Can you imagine that, a flat bottom ferryboat crossing the channel.
I dont know which other Ferry ran on that part of the river in those days. .....John

I know you meant Woolwich John.

You say about a flat bottomed ferry boat crossing the Channel, what about all the landing craft that did the same a few years later? My dad sailed a landing craft from Norfolk Virginia to Scotland via the Azores. Not on his own needless to say :D
