After a day spent masking and painting, all the main colours are done. Today saw the yellow ends and grey roof completed and finally a coat of gloss varnish ready for the transfers. Now it needs to be left for a bit to harden off properly.

No amount of cash makes paint dry faster.

Weathering hides a lot of mistakes.

Let’s see how it looks when it is fully loaded up, but I have full confidence that it is in the hands of an expert.
Remember as soon as you drive away from the showroom in a new car it becomes less pristine by the minute.......however for sure not looking for weathering like the pictures of the real Class 66’s on Rail Head Cleaning train duties that I posted the other day.

All transferred up now.
I have used transfers from RailTec this time after seeing their small stand at Warley. They make up sets specifically for the loco of your choice. All other males tend to recommend soapy water and a softener such as MicroSol. Not so with these - plain water releases them from the backing very quickly. They do say that if applying on textured surfaces you can add a couple of drops of PVA to the water. With the gloss surface I have here I have just used plain tap water.
The 31 will get a coat of satin varnish tomorrow to seal the transfers before I think about reassembly.

Wow - that is starting to look very nice indeed - just had to order a Class 31 TTS decoder this afternoon and now looking for a suitable speaker to maximise the effect...... roll-on the re-assembly to see what it looks like on the rails - great job Steve.
