I know what happened to his loco collection. His lady wife sent it to a specialist toy auction. There was something about not wanting to be involved with individual sales. It was very exclusive, as he had them converted by a guy on ebay, who fitted the fires, crews and sound..

She was a very nice lady. BB, PP and myself went to his funeral and had a nice chat with her.

She would have to have been both nice, and long suffering to have withstood his humour. He never held back his opinion, unlike me.

Absolutely no issues at all John. To be honest this thread has been the ‘virtual’ equivalent of a chat down the pub with some mates.
Mind you it would have been better if we’d all been having a chat in your wine cellar. :D

70? What are you going to drink Roger?

Apart from a couple of trips to Boulanger and Calais, 2020 will see my first deliberate visit to France.
Just before Christmas the Beeb aired a series entitled ‘Rick Stein’s France’ - in this he ended up in the far south west in French Catalonia. I was struck by a small fishing village called Collioure.

As I am in Catalunya (that’s the Spanish bit f the same area) next month I checked on Google maps and it seems Collioure is less than two hours from my hotel. I have a ‘spare’ day so a photographic excursion is now on the itinerary.

I wonder how my soon to be ‘non EU’ passport will be greeted at the border?

Three days before the Referendum I was leaving Warnemunde, Germany. A Customs and Excise Officer (or whatever his rank was) stopped me and demanded to see my passport. He looked at it then stamped it so I could depart.

I often wonder what he knew that I did not.
