On the left you have curve point point, but on the right you have curve point curve point so there is less track on the left hence the extra bit added after the second point.

The curves are different parts but equal on both sides. I have swapped them around so semetrical on both sides.

Ah found it. Missed another r610, short straight . I see what I've tried doing, basically wanted to increase clearance of walls but a whole straight is bit too much, but by adding the 610 before the point on the left, not only creating the gap but also increased the width
I've just added 2 610 to the outer loop either end of the horse shoe

So having powered the track back up and tested the layout last night, I'm getting a couple dead spots on the two ovals, partly the track but I also think partly the trains aren't that good.
The sidings I have only allow 2 cars plus a longish diesal train. I'm tempted to.look for 1 or 2 half decent second hand engines, don't want spend loads (around £20-£30 each ) as don't want the track to damage a really nice one.
The problem is, I don't really know what is good/not so good "runner" nor history/setting iof trains.
I'm at that cross road of made up fiction allowing mix
of stuff I already have and no rules persay or attempt to model real location, or somewhere between the two.
One of the other reasons for made up was I've been struggling for inspiration, having not really used the railways, not really speaks to me.

I've been thinking about my favourite locations and where we go on holiday and now leaning towards seaside, although I personally prefer Lake District, we frequent Cornwall/Scilly Isles but mostlyCromer Norfolk quite a lot in our VW campervan.

I came across the Norfolk railway website and interestingly there was a tunnel on the line, which gives me a reason for the tunnel I want on my layout.
I think owing to limited skills and budget, it'll be somewhere between the two of fiction and history.

Anyone got any reference material/know much about it?
Would it be fairly easy to loosely model/replicate it ? I will.look for a schematic diagram of the railway, at its maximum, it had just under 100 miles of track.

I don't advocate deliberately bashing my locomotives, but a small tap from a moment of inattention does not do lasting harm. In any event,
do it once and one becomes hyper vigilant. Diamonds make keeping the "ball in play" somewhat more interesting.
