Points not throwing fully across
Re: Points not throwing fully across
Thank you Steve. I haven’t. Is there a particular template I should use?
Re: Points not throwing fully across
I use SCARM. There is a free version but I think rations how many track sections you can use but it may be enough to get a ‘picture’ of your troublesome section.

Another option is Anyrail but I’ve not used that one myself.
Failing that good old fashioned pencil and paper - take a photo.

Pencil and paper is my choice or a photo of the layout from above.
Nurse, the screens!
Re: Points not throwing fully across
Not had any time to get to this problem but what is clear is that the points and the track running into it have to be lifted so I've done that.
It's fitting it back, in limited space and therefore limited radius, without pulling everything else up that's tricky. I am also restricted by a sloping roof so can't go right to the edge as need to allow for clearance. But, I have the space I have and it needs to be worked around.
So...tracksetta gauges are going to be useful. I already have some but does anyone know of any longer ones that can be purchased rather than the short standard ones?

Re: Points not throwing fully across
They only come in one length.
Try pinning the track as you go then move the T/S along overlapping the previous bit - or buy more (expensive).

Thanks Steve, I thought so I might see if I can manufacture something or, as you say, pin it and move along. Just trying to get a good sense of the layout in a tight space before pinning.
Re: Points not throwing fully across
Use drawing pins or map pins to temporarily hold it then you can easily go back and adjust.

Re: Points not throwing fully across
I thought the wiring would be my greatest challenge when I cam back to the hobby. It's not - fitting the track in confined spaces and avoiding derailing is!
I'll try the drawing pin trick. I also found this:

Anyone used one?

Re: Points not throwing fully across
Glad to report an update. I've used an E197 small Y point. This has given me a little more room with slightly straighter track running into the toe. It seems an improvement with no derailments at tis early stage. Fingers crossed as the remaining track is relaid!
