'Old' Harry Smith's last day.

Harry Smith has worked for the Great Western and now BR for over 50 years, joining in 1919 after serving in France during WW1. He has been known as 'Old' Harry ever since he joined the army due to the fact that he lied about his age to join up in 1916, (he was only 14).

He started as working for the GWR as a Shunter and is now retiring as a guard. He is now struggling to stand straight and gets breathless very quickly (all due to injuries received serving his country). Today, being Harry's retirement day, his grandson has come along to capture a few images of his Grand Dad on his last working day.

The first image shows Harry in his younger days, the second is Harry getting ready to Guard his final train.

Nicely done - you have managed to capture a simple air of realism which is a hard thing to carry off properly.

Good to see that man suitably employed - we can't have him just swanning around in clean overalls :D

Your scenery technique is excellent.

After working a night shift and feeling a little tired, George tends to his final duties before setting off for home and bed.

That does look amazingly realistic - he looks exhausted. R-

Thank you Roger. I added a slightly darker brown under is eyes to try and give him a 'black bag' look.

I think he looks quite poorly. You’d better paint a doctor to check him out.
