The viewing figures for this programme were just over 1 million, just slightly less than Traffic Cops & Casualty and more than Walking Britain's Lost Railway.......I find it interesting, informative and entertaining and nowt wrong with the presenters or the judges....... :geek: ...HB

Looks like there is going to be a second series, the voice over at the credits in heat 5 invited people to sign up for another series.

I think heat 5 was the best so far with Aberdean MRC worthy winners. I also think it was the toughest challenge incorporating water real or fake was going to be hard especially when working against the clock with drying times to consider.

I missed the one before this one. The first two were repeated throughout the week, so when I missed it I didn't worry. You think I could find a repeat for the one I missed? No chance. Couldn't even find it on YouTube....
I must say that I'm enjoying watching it though.

My phone rang yesterday afternoon...."Hello John, it's Kevin from work. We have been watching that series on building model railways. Would it be ok if we popped over and had a look at your lay outs?"

Half an hour later there was a knock on my front door, Kevin, Therese and their son, James, were stood eagerly waiting to come in.

Here are a few of the comments made.

Therese
"Look Kevin, that is the static grass stuff they were using on the show"
"Look at the pond, that is like the water stuff they used yesterday"
"I am so glad the big headed team who brought lots of stuff did not win the first week"

Kevin
"Did you add the ballast in the same way they do on the programme?"
"How do you add 'animations'?"

You get the gist of things? ;)

James who has learning difficulties was in awe of the lay outs, "Just like on TV" he said.

After some loco running time and a very long chat they were ready to leave. They are now going to start building a lay out. So three new model railway hobbyists all thanks to a TV programme on Channel 5.

I gave James a new Bachmann 56xx in GWR green plus a crew to add and said I would be happy to help and advice if they get stuck. So 3 new people for the hobby and 3 very big fans of The Great Model Railway Challenge.

I am sure every one I work with knows I am into model trains :D

I got the fabricators to make my run out cassettes and tunnel cover on my 00 lay out and the paint line powder coated them for me.

Kevin is a driver at my factory and he delivered a base board for me last week :)
