In other news, scenic has started.

Ok, it is just a tester pot to start to cover ground before deciding how far ballast will spread and tarmac will go. Still, it is a start.

Always a good idea to use a base colour. I too always wonder how far to spread ballast beyond the usual shoulder, and, what goes between areas of ballast. Is it earth, rubble, grass or what? Perhaps someone can answer this. So far I've used a mish-mash.

That's the fun of South Auckland, being a fictional but inspired by various locations, I can go with what I feel, or at least what doesn't look wrong.

Latest little update.

Now, to the uninitiated, these two pictures may look like a pizza box, split open, turned inside out, remade in a different configuration, glued together using PVA and a cotton bud to spread it, and then clamped together.

Tonight's small step forward.

The pizza cardboard proof of concept has moved forward.

The finished article with not have a join in the middle, and a sloped roof giving more room underneath. It doesn't seem to take over the layout, which I am happy about.

After getting rid of my old car, I have spent a little bit of the proceeds on a new arrival. For the grand total of twenty pounds this little fellow has arrived. I intend to modify the paintwork at some point in the future.

It runs brilliantly, the box is almost mint, and still has some detailing parts, unused included.

I have a little engine that is in 'the wrong livery' for my layout. I was going to repaint it, but time passed and eventually I grew to love it. It still hasn't been repainted.

Mek-Pak has arrived, plasticard due next week. It is getting a bit real.

Time to learn anither new skill.

Dead spot on a point has been soldered and all is well in the world.

Rising like Lazarus, I have an update.

I have reached a sort of point of no return, cutting the big sheet of plasticard for the long side of my warehouse that is to cover the controls.

It has been cut, along with sides. All 40 thousandth sheet. The roof is angled, as a lot of modern buildings of this type are. I used pythagoras to work out the size i needed, and cut those sections, and bracing pieces from 20 thousandth sheet.

A small section has been dry fitted and looks about right.

Using some offcuts I made a sample and primed it. Next tip to learn, filling and sanding back.

I will start the constructive process when I finalise the postion of doors for trucks and entrances.
