Thanks Steve - very helpful. I too used a base of 2mm all over to start with, so I got that right. I’ll add different colours, lengths and thicknesses next and see how I get on. Good tips about the flowers etc. Many thanks.

I've re-seeded the lineside field, and the results are a little better. Using the Steve M method, I used a 2mm Spring Green, followed by 4.5mm Early Summer Green and then a light covering of Summer Beige - using the layering spray between each colour. The colouring is better, but do I need more grass?

That looks spot onto me. Maybe some taller weeds along the line of the fence?

Thanks Steve - I was going to add the odd bush and some greenery along the fence line.

A nice variety of subtle colours. I’m also trying to get that overgrown unkempt look - not at all easy as I am naturally a neat person. Will be interested to see what you do next/what techniques you use.

The long grass in our fields is brown with just the short grass green. Not a good example.

Looks brillent to me but looks as if weather has been dry. But the trouble is my computer screen is not giving very good colour of your grass. It is only an old HP lappy. We live in the country and are driving through beautiful country, forestes and hills around Gretna all the time. Up here we have to go 30miles to a Dentist. and nerly a hundred miles if we have to visit a Hospital. :( When out driving you notice the fields change from day to day depending on the time of year and the weather. Your one looks to me if my screen is right, that it has been a dry spell and gone light colour. No such thing as perfect looking field. A few weeds and bushes around would be better. But the sheep will only eat them. Like WTDs picture showing the diference between long and short grass and changing of weather.

Ignore the scrappy ash trees they have now gone.

I have been enjoying looking through the archives for this, especially the Flickr pictures. There is much to be said for a spot of Southern. I do like your lighting in carriages and on the platforms.

Thanks James. Some new LED light bars arrived from Germany today, so hopefully will have a rake up and running very soon. The platform lamps are Ratio kits (£5) that I modified - nobody made a good powered replica of the southern concrete lamp posts - with a degree of patience the kits were not difficult to modify.
