Best tool I've seen this year was a double ended adjustable wrench (spanner). It was Imperial at one end and metric at the other

When my lad started his motor trade apprenticeship the local Snap-On man came to kit him out as usual, but this guy gave him good advice that he should get decent basic hand tools such as ratchets, pliers, snips, extension bars, etc, but for the rest buy a cheap ‘Halfords or Draper’ multi socket set and when the individual bits start to wear out after a few weeks buy the Snap-On equivalent and sling the duff one. This meant he didn’t end up with a very expensive treasure chest of tools many of which he would never use, especially if he found being a tech wasn’t his route in life. Saved him a fortune at a time when he didn’t have much money.
