Re: Wykeham - Somewhere in the south!
Looks like someone has moved into Hill Top Cottage? Some light bleed, but very difficult to get paint on all of the interior walls. I can lose some of the light bleed by painting the front door. The lighting is actually a cut down carriage lighting kit, with a latching reed switch, four LED's on a strip and a 3v button battery. Just wave a magnet over the cottage and the lights are either turned on or off.

They appear to be wealthy too - all those lights on. Looks great Barry, very realistic. R-

My era Roger, is early sixties - so probably candles in a rural cottage.

Yes, it looks good. If it’s good enough for Pendon [candle light] it’s good enough for us. R-

But do the candles flicker?
"Not very stable, but incredibly versatile."

Looking good Barry. Well done.
Just an idea, Barry (and anyone else doing similar).
Use black card on the inside walls to stop (most) light bleed.
Old houses and cottages had wooden shutters instead of curtains at the windows. Our old house did. Shutters stop the light shining out.
(I know the building is a station building, but when my wife saw it in the shop she said it looks like a farm house her family lived at. A must purchase. Placed in the corner of the layout it is 'Wyndham Farm'.

Re: Wykeham - Somewhere in the south!
Thanks for the suggestion Glencairn - the problem with this building is that there is a one inch diameter hole in the base, whereas some models have no base/floor, and internal access is fine. The hole was big enough to get the battery holder along with the switch and LED strip through, but it would not allow a paint brush to get to floor level. I could paint the outside of the cottage in dark grey/black, and when dry go over it with white, but having put a drop of Tamiya Clear Yellow(?) over each LED this has toned the light down considerably. Baking foil is also a very good light blocker. The cottage is N gauge, so this made it all a bit more of a fiddle. Barry

N gauge is certainly more than a fiddle.bulleidboy wrote: ↑Thu Jan 05, 2023 3:41 pm The cottage is N gauge, so this made it all a bit more of a fiddle. Barry
