Hi Knowledgable pepole, I am struggling to find something that is free to represent long grass under bushes and trees on my farm section. I know you can probably buy ready made but it's such a small bit to cover (about 3ins) that I'm hoping one of you clever peeps can suggest something that is free
. Thanks Linda

Old hairy carpet or the underlay used for plant pots etc. Glue it to the board upsidown with something like PVA. Then when the glue has dried, lift the carpet or whatever has been used and some should stick to the board. I hope it offers a practical solution.

The old type carpet underlay, not the foam, or the liner for hanging baskets. Glue it down with PVA and allow to dry. Then rip it up. Looks pretty good.
I can send you some if you like the result. No charge.

Same method, different material, and unfortunately not completely free. Surgical lint (from a chemists) stick the hairy side down and when the glue is dry tear off the gauze backing. Gives a slightly finer finish once sprayed green.

Oo! Some good ideas already! I have some lint in the first aid box. I'll give it a go. Thank-you

Not carpet but hanging basket liner.
Happy to send you a bit if you want it.

Teddy bear fur, polyfibre from cuddly toys or cheap non -feather pillows. Will need dying or spraying to get the right colour but most folks have these old things gathering dust in a cupboard or in the loft!
