I've just read in the Tampa Bay Times, that an elderly couple were in Publix (US equiv. of Tesco/Sainsbury's) at the checkout - he was paying and she was loading the trolley, when a shot was fired. The old man went down having been shot through the leg. Emergency services/police were there within seconds, but the shooter was not found. On studying the CCTV, the police found that while loading the trolley, the old lady (the wife) knocked her purse (handbag) onto the floor, and the .38 calibre deringer she kept in her purse went off and shot her husband. She had a license for a concealed weapon, and the police of classed it as an accidental shooting - I wonder what they would have classed it as if she had killed the cashier or someone else in the checkout queue?

Thank goodness the UK gun laws mean that it isn't that type of shooting we need to be worried about..... There are of course plenty of shootings, just not the type where it is an accident in a supermarket.

Quite agree about gun laws in this country.
However, if that gun had a safety catch - I'm assuming it didn't - you would think it would be on all the time.

I must say over the years I have heard enough stories about the US to make it the least likely place for me to visit in the world. Next to places where wars are in progress at the time.
Mind you, you may well stand a better chance at being shot in the states than the war zones.

We have a gun maker in our village, and he seems to do a brisk trade. It is a very interesting shop.

We also have in the village the only Butcher I have known who sells Fishing tackle as well. Well we do live on the best Salmon and Trout river in Europe.
Well not actually on it but near it.
