Not sure if this is the right place for this question, apologies if not.
I have a Hornby (R6347A) GWR 20 Ton Brake Van. It has the wider but rigid couplings. It tends to derail some trucks it's coupled to which have the more flexible coulings - I think they are tension lock as they have a two pronged clip that pushes into the wagons.
Has anyone experience of replacing the former with the latter please before I start dismantling!
Many thanks.
Coupling issues
Re: Coupling issues
The pronged coupling is an NEM type which is pretty much the industry standard now. The older wide, rigid ones can be changed but an easier way is to just remove the hook from the rigid one so the other NEM hook has more room to slide on the remaining loop.
"Not very stable, but incredibly versatile."
Re: Coupling issues
Sorry, I forgot to report back!
I removed the coupling link from the brake van and all is well.
Many thanks!

Re: Coupling issues
Not wishing to hijack this thread but I have a Bachmann, Thompson BR Maroon Brake coach which has rather large couplings. I can see the bogie will unscrew but was wondering, can I buy a replacement bogie with the smaller Bachmann coupling ?
