Re: Big Boy
So we hear! A remarkable piece of equipment, it was built for freight service
in a mid-Western region of the United States that had a particularly nasty
gradient, Sherman Hill, I think it was. The thing is so heavy that its movements,
alas, are rather confined to certain parts of the country, as there is some
concern, I am led to believe, about bridge tolerances in some parts. Rather
an eyesore to have to hook it up with modern diesel equipment, methinks, but
is a necessary evil to activate Positive Train Control systems, and the like.
