Strange isn’t it, I have quite a few books on railways and ships but I can only spot one that I have that is in your collection.

My daughter has just purchased her 500th book about the Great War.

SS Uganda and a photo of a Naval Officer? Anything to do with the Falklands by chance? Mother Hen?

SS Uganda was the first ship I went on on a cruise. It was well before 'Falklands', 1969 to be exact. She has always had a special place close to my heart, so much so, I travelled on hr another twice. I was invited by the Captain to visit the Bridge and Engine Room.

The photograph of the Captain and I on the Bridge, is on board Island Escape. I received an invitation to be on the Bridge as the ship entered Livorno, Italy. That was in 2003.

The other photograph is of HMY Britannia, now moored in Leith, Edinburgh.

I did have many more books, but have 'passed them on' to friends and family.

I am now curious as to which book we both have?

I am at present reading a book about the North Eastern Railway in the Great War.

Glencairn

LMS 150 but I have spotted LNER 150 next to it, so that’s two.

I got rid of lots of books with the intension of not replacing them. Failed again.

I keep buying ship and aircraft books, not railway any more.

It is my greatest saving since coming to France, Books. Heather used to buy loads, but postage changed all that . Now we both have Kindles, where over 2000 free books, library has meant change of reading habits, but massive, financial saving. Naturally real books are best, but nobody here wants to buy our old ones. Our best friend, was a retired director of W H Smith’s, and had massive collection. When she died, nobody was interested, so they all went to the tip, once we had had first dibs. Terrible waste.

We much prefer to have a book. To us they are more convenient. Then when finished, hand them to the library; be it on board a ship or grandson's school (who accept books).

Difficult,here in France. We went to local library and offered English books, to be met with polite refusal.
