Came across this site at the weekend. Navigate to an area that interests you, then click on the Time Travel button to see an old map of the same area. Click Time Travel again to return to the modern map. Very useful for layouts based on old railway systems.

When you do a link like "this site" is it possible to have the text in bold to make it stand out?

It is. If you use the link button above the reply box to get the {url} {/url} type entry but change the url bits to be {color=red} text in here {/color} you will get this output . I have changed the square brackets to the curly ones as the text editor treats them (the square ones) as code commands and they become invisible. Try the text colour change first as the treatment for a url is slighty more complex to explain. R-

Thanks for the link Rog. I selected it, showed it to SWMBO and that was the last I saw of my iPad. Brilliant site.

I have a few old maps. Old GWR maps. A map of the UK which was updated in the very early 1850's. The odd few B.R. maps including a Red Star map, and then more modern maps like Wales and West, Network Rail, Arriva etc.

What a cracking find. Thank you. Can't stop exploring.

Fascinating even just looking at places where I have lived.
I found a similar site but can’t locate it again.
My first home as a kid was in a miner’s cottage knocked down in the late 50’s slum clearance. It could be seen on the late 1800’s map.

If I zoom on that view to my local station (Murton) it isn’t what I remember at all.

That NLS map site is used by the Timepix site. The beauty of Timepix is the fast toggling between old and new which makes it so useful and fascinating. I find the NLS maps a bit tricky to negotiate on their own but very easy with Timepix.
