This has probably been discussed before but I would like to set up a broad gauge GWR shunting layout. I fear though the RTR market would be too small for the investment needed to produce such a thing. Has anyone produced such a layout?

Many moons ago a modeller called Mike Sharman wrote articles in the railway modelling magazines about his loco and layout building. His layouts were based around the early 19th Century and featured broad, standard and mixed gauges. His locos were all scratch built of course, and he went on to manufacture wheels for sale to other modellers. Sadly he passed away five years ago or so.
Have you tried

On YouTube there is film of Mike Sharman’s Victorian Model Railway (1987). Well worth a look (IMO).

You're right that is an incredible layout. The quality of those locomotives and track and signal design is amazing. I love the steam powered traverser

Thank you for finding it. I did enjoy the video.
Splendid models of locos and rolling stock.
