AMAZON SCAM E-MAIL
I would like to draw your attention to a scam e-mail i received recently , it says although i have received my goods they have yet to be paid for. It then asks me to go to the following page to make sure that the payment information for your account is correct. the link shows an account summary and a fake order number. I have just set up a two stage log-in to my account, i am sure you are all wise to these scams, but beware i have read banks and companies not willing to pay you back if you scammed because the item was not delivered to you. I have forwarded the e-mail to Amazon`s fraud department, they replied back to say it was a scam e-mail. Here is an edited version of the e-mail with links removed.

There are lots of scams around at the moment. My wife got one from EE yesterday re our BB account (which we don't have.) Just be careful with all these emails and ensure any friends and family who might not be as savvy as you/us are safe.

I have recently had an email scam saying that I have won a fifty pound voucher from amazon and to redeem the voucher I was asked to filll in all my personal details so be wary of this scam.
I have also received one from tv licensing telling me that the monthly payment for my tv license had been missed and to fill in the attached form with my banking information to set up a new direct debit. The form looked very genuine but I saw a few things that did not look right, checked on google and saw it was a scam,
There are a few telephone scams around at the moment saying that Amazon are going to take a certain amount of money from your account and to speak to a person about it to press 1 on your telephone which then puts you onto a very high call charge line.
I know most people are aware the these scum that are around trying to con decent people but the more that we publicise these scams the better.
A neighbour who is a pensioner and lives alone had a telephone call informing her that she owed hundreds of pounds in tax revenue and they needed to talk to her about the problem but before they could give her any information she had to prove that she was the correct person that they were talking to by giving them all her passport details.They said they could verify who she was straight away as they have a direct link to the passport office. They also warned her that the police are involved as she may have been defrauding the tax office.
This made her panic and she gave them her passport details, as soon as they had all her details they hung up.
She rang my wife after the call in a very distressed state.
My wife saw her straight away and on her behalf contacted the passport office to tell them the situation and what had occurred. Luckily her Passport had expired some time ago and was no longer valid or useable so the informAtion given to the scammers was of no use at all.
Be careful out there.

I get these things all the time. I just bin them. Amazon don’t deliver until the payment has been approved, TV license is a direct debit so why wouldn’t it have suddenly not worked etc. I am lucky enough however to have been left £5 million by a kind chap in Nigeria so I might not be on the forum any more.

Brian - some of your Nigerian guys relations have been e-mailing me for years with regards a plane crash in which all of their relations were sadly killed, with tens of millions tied up in overseas accounts, where they just need a couple of hundred pounds to pay for the official paperwork to be dealt with to release the funds - could I please forward my bank details.
I probably get two calls a day from "supposedly" Amazon Prime saying they are about to close my account unless I pay £X. Luckily I still have the email from Amazon Prime where I cancelled/didn't take up the offer of membership. If I don't see on our Call and Display a name or number I recognise I/we don't pick up - they can always leave a message. If you've ever rung me and got no answer I'll apologise now. Barry

The Amazon phone call is about 0830 most days and always a different number because I block it each time.

We got the Amazon phone call recently, it was reported in the local press that it was doing the rounds in the district. Seems the scammers use the area code then use an auto dialler to randomly phone numbers I shudder to think how many little old dears have fallen victim to these scum.
