after having to start all over again..this time in a much bigger loft a few pics showing present state

Nice one, Alan. How long did this take you? Your ballasting looks good. Do you have any tips for us about how this was done? I'll be facing this job fairly soon and I'm all ears to other members' ideas.

Nice layout - lots of room, and on two levels.

Hi Artur,the ballast is actually bird grit,cost £1.50 for 2kg from market pet stall.I seived it with a fine strainer and used the fine stuff for the four foot and the courses for the six foot.Cost me £35 to ballast the whole board,it is not glued either,as its quite heavy it does,nt move,all id did was pour it gently between tracks and used a small paint brush to level it,i will post some more pics of layout later

How do you clean the layout if the ballast is loose?

There is very little dust up there but id something needs a clean i use a rechargeable hand held vacuum cleaner with a small nozzle,the track i use an old hornby track cleaner and a dapol motorised cleaner,

The layout looks great. I'm wondering what it's called. I notice that in the last photo the track is curving out of the picture and I'm curious to know whether it's an end to end, a (large) roundy-roundy or some other design. I'd love to see some more photos to get an impression of the design of the whole layout.
