Dapol Junction Bracket Signals

#1

Post by Rich123 »

I have just obtained one of the above. The set contains pre-wired switches that plug into a control module that fits below the signal, under the baseboard. The problem is that the wires are only twelve inches long and my control panel is more that three feet away from where I want to install the signal. Can anyone suggest how I can extend the cables without inserting a longer cable? I don't want to start cutting the supplied cable as this could invalidate the warranty. (I've had to return one of the single arm models in the past because of a fault). Has anyone else got one of these signals and have experienced the same problem?

I wouldn’t imagine anybody is going to have a control panel within 12 inches of all the signals on a layout. Surely you are supposed to supply the wires to the control module.

I'd have said that was the case with any pre wired accessory to be honest Rich. You will have to join wiring onto the supplied wires, which really are only there to cater for the drop under the baseboard. There are a variety of solutions. Can you solder?

I can solder (not very well) but I can ask a member of the club to help. At the moment I'm looking at all avenues to go down before I have to cut the wires. I suppose if I have to I could use terminal blocks as they won't be visible.

Surely an extension cable must be available for such situations ?...... if not you can perhaps make you own with a pair of matching male and female connector and a length of suitable cable...... if you can post a picture of the connector I can try to help identify the type etc

No picture. Did you use the "Add image to post" in blue at the bottom of the reply box?
