Visited the doctor as I’ve been struggling to shake off a cold since the start of December - the cold stopped being the problem as soon as he said “it sounds like your aortic valve is flapping in the breeze.”
So the referrals begin.

Take care of yourself. My mother had a valve replacement (they actually leave the old one in place and put in an artificial one). This made a big difference to her. She is probably a good bit older than you too, as she was 85 when she had the operation.

Could I scratchbuild one out of plasticard?

Take it easy Steve - we're all getting older. I have an MRI/Heart Stress test next Tuesday. I went in for my hernia operation last September, and the next thing I know, is that I have heart and respiratory problems - all news to me. It would appear I have Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) - which in English is thickening of the heart wall muscles. I had an echo-cardiogram back in September when the consultant said everything was OK and get on with life as usual - an prescribed a daily tablet - don't they always! I paid for this as it was urgent, but she added me to her NHS list for the MRI, and that's what will happen next week. Then a week later I visit the Respiratory Clinic, I think to pick-up a machine which may help the breathing when I'm asleep - I have been tested for Sleep Apnia before. I think they loan you the machine for one night (it saves taking a bed space), as it has to be back by 9.30am the next morning. No wonder the NHS is in trouble - you go in with one problem and come out with three! Barry

Slowing down is wise advice Steve, just take heed or you will end up like me and come to a abrupt stop.

Before the experts get their hooks into me I’ve chosen KFC for lunch - and halfway through that the doctor phoned to book my first blood test. And so it begins.

Came very close to an abrupt stop walking from Goathland to Darneholme last September.

Hope all goes well Steve. My son had a human donor valve age 9 and a mechanical at 18. He's fine.
