"Hello!"
I grew up with a Hornby Dublo 3 rail Duchess of Montrose set on a 4' x 3' board. I was drawn to my local train station which was closed while I was a small boy. In my late teens I had a new Hornby train set as a present and began to buy in order to build a layout.
Then came mortgages, marriage, and children! My train set was boxed in the loft in 1983.
Now I have been granted the freedom of the garage and my train boxes are out from the loft. I have 16' x 3' to build a layout in OO gauge (I do have another space which I am determined to replicate my boyhood local train station In N gauge).
Any ideas are welcome.

Welcome beesabobs. I like you had packed it all away for a few decades before blowing the dust off three or four years ago.

You may have many questions, but there'll always be someone with a helpful answer.

Have fun.

Welcome beesatbobs - you have joined a great forum. I too started with a Duchess of Montrose on a 3-rail layout in about 1953? BB
