Hot Air Gun - Any good?

Hi Guys, do any of you use a hot air gun for shrink wrapping solder joints or just like me use the side of the iron's tip? if so, are they worth the extra expense and any tips on brands or usage?

Just asking as I was watching some videos on you tube and was quite impressed at the speed and efficiency of them. Dozens on Amazon and I thought it might make a nice prezzy for my birthday in a couple of months time. Cheers.

I use one, very useful, sometime you need do shrink wrap something when you are not using a soldering iron.

For a more "Professional" shrink, hot air is the only option. I use a hot air attachment on my Portasol gas powered soldering station. But for a quick job as the irons on and hot I use that! :D

I got one from Aldi, it’s actually a paint stripper but has two temperature settings the lower one is just right for heat shrinking the high setting would probably melt solder!

Previously I had used SWAMBOs professional hair drier being slightly higher wattage to those available retail, that is until she caught me red-handed

Thanks PL, I like the look and reviews of that one - now in my Amazon wish list.

Many thanks to all who took the time to reply.

This one looks similar to WTD’s even cheaper than the other on Amazon and the description seems word for word. Obviously not cheaper than eBay but if you have prime it might work out cheaper by the time you take P&P into account.
