Built this with cardboard and left over plastrut parts, steps and railings plastrut, the rest is paper and card.Having finished it I feel a tad disappointed in so much as it looks too much like the kit you can buy.I wish I would have tackled a structure not so common in hind sight. Didn't do enough research in the 'real' world but only looked around to what models were being used It might get decommissioned

Thanks Mr Bones and Roger. This is a shot of the the area Im trying to develop. Not sure wether to go Engine shed or Goods yard.It is a larger area than what it looks like on the photo Would appreciate any constructive suggestions.I have a coal mine at the other end,to the right of picture, and is wired with an auto reverser to where the goods yard is situated.I have a 3MT with a couple of wagons going back and forth while waiting for the main traffic to go by it keeps the interest there. It works well and makes the scene look busy.Cheers.

I think it looks great keef. Only suggestion I would offer is to make the ground area around the bottom a lot dirtier as transfer of coal would almost certainly cause some spillage and coal dust. The two operatives could be dirtied as well.

Looks to me like the one at the bottom is resting against the steps. Doubt he'd be very dirty :D R-

Fortunately my layout is not large enough to warrant a coaling tower. I can make do with a couple of strategically placed small coaling stages.

From what I've seen in pictures of coaling towers there doesn't seem to be all that much uniformity to them, just so long as there was a mechanical means to get the coal to the top and a means to empty it into the tender or bunker of the engine. Yours certainly looks fine. As for the development of the area I would think that having a goods shed close to a dusty and very messy coaling tower would not be a good idea. I'd treat the area as some sort of MPD reserve.
