Hornby original HAA wheels replacement?

Hi all,

I have a rake of 11 original Hornby HAA coal wagons (mid 90s) that could do with replacing their wheels due to bouncing over Peco code 100 points.

Does anyone know the correct replacement size and code please?

Have tried the Hornby 12.6mm R8096 but the wheels look too low and don't spin as easy meaning a struggle for any loco pulling the rake.

Thanks in advance!

What diameter are the old wheels, the part that rests on the track not the flanges?

I haven't got a digital measurer but to the naked eye I'd say 13mm

Hi

You really need to line up the left hand side of the wheel tread with the 10mm/1Cm mark then measure from that mark towards the right. :D
I doubt if the rules left hand edge is zero mm? :o

13mm but tapers nearer to 14mm at the flange.

Hornby do 14.1mm spares so will give them a bash!

Thanks for the replies

Hi all,

Taken a while but I bit the bullet and spent £30 on 2 packs of Hornby 14.1mm wheels, and they're no good.

Fitted a pair, put on the track and they're not spinning freely.

Any suggestions as I've tried both Hornby options?

Thanks in advance

Ream out the hole where the axie fits with a small drill bit. Not too much, just turn the bit using your fingers. Not an uncommon problem. Probably only requires a minute amount removed. All is not lost, not the end of the world. :D

Hi all, thanks for the suggestions.

After all that it was the 12mm wheels that worked after carefully drilling a little more of the hole out for the axle to site using my archimedes drill.

No bouncing over the Peco points and all running smoothly.
