solder

on the workbench i have a shortage os solder. What do people buy, and where from, as here, am limited to on line, and know not which ones to buy. john

For electrical soldering try and obtain 60/40 Tin/Lead rosen cored solder. I would avoid Lead Free solder if possible.
Depending on what you want to solder either 0.7mm for fine work of a thicker one of around 1.0mm - 1.2mm for general soldering such as dropper wires to rails.

I guess that really depends on how much you want to purchase? If you only occasionally solder electrcial connections, then its better to obtain a smaller quantity.
