Pillar Box - Which red?

I have to paint a couple of pillar boxes. I will probably have to buy a new red paint - just bright red? Ferrari red? Humbrol don't do "Pillar Box Red". Having looked at Google Images/UK Pillar Boxes, some are gloss some are flat (matt). Any ideas? Many thanks.

They all start gloss. I reckon cherry red will be about right. I believe Tamiya make it.

Thanks Brian - I'll pop over to Hobbycraft tomorrow. Sandtex do a Pillar Box Red - but it only comes in 10litre cans!

There are few offerings from *Bay and Amazon of Pillar Box Red Gloss - 180ml, a lot less than .5l and 10l

In 00 gauge I could probably paint fifty pillar boxes with a tablespoon of paint. Anyway a trip to Hobbycraft will get me out for a few minutes!

Talking of pillar boxes.

Before the 2nd World War there were Pillar boxes in Airforce Blue for Air Mail letters.

Unused pillar boxes (usually outside closed Post Offices) are painted black and the aperture sealed.

Not sure when it happened but there is a blue airmail pillar box next to a red one in Windsor.

Edit: painted blue in the early 30's.

There are also a number of post boxes that were painted gold as a tribute to Olympics gold medal winners in 2012. Originally they were only going to be gold for a short time but it was decided to keep them gold due to public popularity.
