In 1995 I acquired the Triang set with three coaches in a trade with the one other British fancier in El Paso,
and recklessly ran it with gay abandon, until the brushes wore out after a dozen hours of use.

Over the ensuing decades, various attempts to repair or replace the extremely hard to locate motor were to
no avail. In the manner of a tender driven unit, the locomotive was altered to allow it to free wheel, and a
power truck was placed into the coach body, but this too failed as it had traction issues compounded by
a tendency to derail the feather weight tender.

With great pleasure I got my paws on the Hornby reissue, and it is an intricate gem. I shall be much more
cautious to not over tax it. BTW, the Triang affair, they tell me, is actually not OO, but rather is S, to
accommodate the tiny motor. This was no doubt an engineering marvel when this piece first came out.

The old Triang is to be sold on eBay as a static display piece. Even as that there still appears great interest in it.
