Lidl have some offers among their DIY range which may be of interest to modellers.

Firstly, a set of three foldaway adjustable height tables potentially suitable as base boards

Second, a multi angle vice

Finally, a soldering helping hands and soldering iron stand with a LED illuminated magnifier.

I bought a set of those tables a while back when they were on offer. Unfortunately they are flimsy with thin hardboard as the surface. Their suitability for a baseboard is limited, unless to provide the support for something more substantial. Even then, they're really only good as a temporary work surface not for working on frequently as the hardboard was too thin even for the purposes they would normally be bought for. They describe them as 'sturdy' - I wouldn't!

I usually like Lidl and Aldi items, this is one of the few that I found to be 'not value for money' to me.

There is some very interesting stuff there! I dropped heavy hints about a helping hands set for my birthday recently, but without success. I think I will take a look at that.

I like the look of the cordless soldering iron. For a tenner it is worth a try and in theory should be ideal when I eventually get around to wiring up my DCC bus.

Also I am definitely going for the rotary tool accessories. At £3.49 it works out at about 1 penny per item.

I have the small multi angle vice and can highly recommend it. Surprisingly strong. I've also used the crimping pliers / wire strippers although they were a different make. Also very good.

Could be worth installing the Lidl app on your phone if you have an iPhone or a Android one. You get £5 off £40 voucher (or at least I did) plus weekly offers starting on a Thursday, a post transaction scratch card which may give extra discount and any purchases total up each month to gain a further voucher if you reach £100 or £200 spend. App IME works when not logged onto wifi/data in terms of displayed the virtual card

Hmmm, that is worth considering. I don't go to Lidl very much as I have a Co-op five minutes walk away. But I do like to go to Lidl occasionally for a 'big shop'.

I am pleased to report that I managed to get one of the swivel vices today. It appears to be very good for the money.
I also got a box of Parkside accessories that will fit my Drexel and a box of 80 crocodile oops sorry they call them alligator clips that will last me at least a hundred years.

Table vice, workmate, saw guide and storage drawers - pleased with that lot.

I'd be interested to find out how good (or not) that iron is, if it has a wedge tip or if the tips can be replaced.

Has anyone got one that could comment?
