Do you think it was an accident that the train went thru the buffers or did the driver do it on Porpoise ?........sorry, I was hunting for ages for the joke in this story and unfortunately this was the best I could come up with.........

It was strange that he didn't stop.
Many years ago a train being parked in the Wimbledon depot sidings - the particular siding runs parallel with the main line and stops at a set of buffers, after which there is a steep embankment down into the River Wandle. It was said (?) that the driver who was reversing the train into the siding, forgot that he was reversing an eight car unit and not four car - two coaches ended up down the embankment and partially in the river - in this case the driver was at the back of the train. The reported case suggest the driver was at the front.
