Hypothetical question!

If you purchased 2 items from someone on the *bay, when you received them they were not as advertised "New" but turned out to be "used". Contacted the seller via *bay, who agreed a refund, then sent you a cheque for £XX which is banked OK.
You then receive two payments of £XX from *bay/paypal because the complaint was through them.
Would you return £XX to the seller?????

I would if the seller had made a genuine mistake.

Can’t really see why you asked. I like to think I am an honest person as it would appear is Terry.

Actually, no I wouldn’t refund the seller.

Presumably the direct refund from seller to buyer also included the return of the goods from the buyer to the seller. Therefore the situation has been restored as if the transaction never took place.

But because the buyer opened a dispute via eBay, their ‘buyers protection scheme’ would also generate a refund from eBay to the buyer - without the seller having to repay eBay.

Therefore it is eBay that is out of pocket and the refund should go to them.

I agree with Steve M
If the transaction has been reversed and the seller has his goods back and you have your money back then e Bay should be refunded. If it was me I would see if there is a way to refund e Bay and if it got to complicated to do so with all the red tape you may have to go through then I would just donate it to charity.

Point taken. Which ever way I wouldn’t keep the money.

The goods were not returned, just a partial refund.
I have since sent an email to the seller, but he has not replied and he has closed down his ebay site!!!
