Steam loco or TGV ?

Hello,
I bought an old Hornby steam loco (#2439) built in 2005. Very cute teapot. But it runs like a TGV. I solved the problem in a very simple way: I put a new Hornby motor and worm. Now this loco runs perfectly. Hope that could help someone.

That's an interesting effort by Hornby. It seems to be based on this loco, of which I found a pic here -

Maybe that newer motor has a twin start worm thus halfing or is it doubling the gearing.

I didn't see any difference between these two motors. This locomotive is too light. How can I add some weight ?

Lead? I'm thinking. Is it the gears which are different?

Put heavy things in it.

Heavy loco crew? I have a pair of cast metal 7mm loco crew for adding weight to my narrow gauge locos somewhere. I've not painted them yet though. Are 4mm scale metal crew available?
Use liquid lead instead of coal...

I love the habit Brits had of taking a diminutive little industrial loco and giving it a regal name and fully lining it. Great photo

For adding weight I use lead sinkers sold in sporting and fishing shops. Just flatten them with a hammer and pack into any available empty space. I fix them in place with Blu-tac. In fact the two engines with that 0-4-0 chassis that I have were tamed by judicious weighting. Be sure to place the weight as close to the centre of the wheel base as possible because the chassis becomes unstable if the weights are placed in the overhang at the ends.

You can’t buy lead sinkers any more they are banned. The synthetic versions aren’t very malleable.
