Shunting layout track plan: crazy ideas ?
Shunting layout track plan: crazy ideas ?
Hello,
just two (and maybe crazy) ideas for another shunting layout. Every layout needs two locos. All your comments will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Both look alright. You have a diamond in the middle (R614) so there is no switching lines? R-
Young at heart. Slightly older in other parts.
Re: Shunting layout track plan: crazy ideas ?
No. I need a short double slip (same size as the R614) but unfortunately this kind of thing doesn't exist...

It is possible to shorten two back to back points, but I'd buy these cheap secondhand to do this. New points are too expensive to consider doing this!
Double slips... If you get a cheap secondhand one you could do some shortening, but not sure it would be ideal as the angles are already relaxed. Two back to back Y points maybe?
I was going to suggest building your own track but a double slip is way in the deep end! I thought I was pushing the boundaries when I tried building myself a diamond crossing.
You could just use a pair of points to link up where the two bottom R606 curves are in both diagrams or do something along those lines. It would make shunting interesting too!

Another thought. If you bridge the bottom section the same way you create a type of run round loop into the shunting puzzle where the loco can run round its wagons... Wait a minute. It worked in my mind... Wait. I can't see it working now... What's different? Yes. It is possible! Youkee the wagons in the bottom larger loop while you run round.

Am I right ? Hope so !
But this funny layout needs a very big amount of money (four new points=£36.00).

Yes, that is it. Interesting idea for the fun aspect of shunting back and forth. A bit of a tight squeeze though and maybe not that prototypical. I thought I'd suggest the idea to add a bit of fun. Yes. Not cheap.
