Sound in Bachmann 9F

Post by MervynJSt0kes »

Has anyone converted a Bachmann 9F to sound ? If so what decoder and speakers did you use please ? Were you able to fit the speakers in the smokebox or did they have to be fitted in the tender ?

Grateful for any help on this topic

I have not done this conversion, but these links may help you. I don't know whether as an "off the shelf" fitment, the Hornby Crosti 9F TTS sound would fit? Most Hornby TTS sound decoders benefit from having a better speaker fitted than the one supplied. BB

I don’t think there is much room in the front of the loco as I believe there is quite a large ballast weight in the chassis. However you may find that the decoder will fit in the smokebox leaving enough space above the DCC plug for a small sugar cube speaker.
For that matter you may be able to squeeze them in the other way provided the decoder will sit above the plug without fouling anything.

When I did mine I followed this guide

https://www.youchoos.co.uk/Index-Resour ... Bachmann9F

I used their sounds as well.
