I need to replace the front of the house doorbell, and am thinking of a wireless RING video doorbell. Has anyone fitted one and are they worth the money. We already have security cameras fitted. Many thanks.

My daughter has one and it works very well. Was at our house the other day and her phone rang, it was an Amazon delivery ringing the doorbell. She told them to take it next door. Amazing.

Personally I would stay away from these "smart" devices and other stuff like them. All videos are collected in the "cloud" and are stored somewhere for others to look at. Similarly "Alexa" and other voice activated smart devices also collect user info. Every voice command entered into such devices is stored and can be used to build a profile of the user through it's IP address. Big Brother is watching you!

We have one, a 2nd gen version and we find it excellent. I bought a cheap charger and the requisite wire wound resistor and hard wired mine. It still works off the battery but the charger simply trickle charges it so no battery removal or spare battery required.

It’s day & night ability is excellent we have it hooked up with Alexa so all the Echo devices chirp in whenever it is triggered and of course we can use the Echo Show to see who is at the door and communicate with them. Away from home I can use my phone to see who is at the door.

You are dead right it's my choice but my remark was to the OP and anyone else that values their privacy.

Regarding your quip on colour TVs I am well up to date on technology thank you, which is why I am aware of these security issues. Like you say, it's your choice too.

Just a bit of fun TWD. We need it in these times.

Have a nice day and keep safe.

We've had one for quite a while. Checking who's at the door via the app on the phone takes longer to do than just answering the door, for me, by the time I log into the phone then launch the app.

However, it is a great security device in that you can see who has approached the door (without ringing the doorbell). I used it recently when a delivery was noted as being delivered but in fact hadn't been. I was able to ring the supplier and tell them the goods hadn't been delivered and had proof no attempt had been made. It turned out the goods had been delivered to a totally different address on a different estate! They arranged collection from that address and re-delivery the same day.

So, for me it is useful. It was originally obtained to be able to answer the door quickly or while away from home in Spain. Again, the time to locate the app and see who's ringing negates the benefit as a doorbell. We have a ringer so in the house there are chimes too.

Colour television? What's a television?

When we were thinking of getting a 'Ring' doorbell our daughter was visiting us. Her phone rang. It was someone putting a leaflet through her door.
We now have 'Ring' doorbell. I can be in the train room and tell whoever "I am on my way to answer." Well worth the investment imo.
