sloping bridge.
sloping bridge.
On my new layout I need a bridge but it is at the top end of an incline so the rails are slopping at 1 in 60. in the real world would a railway build a girder bridge over another line which is sloping. It just does not look right. Anyone have pictures of sloping bridges.

Re: slopping bridge.
Not over sloping rails but definitely a sloping bridge.
High Wycombe.
A bridge would be built where ever it was needed regardless of the situation.

Re: slopping bridge.
Thanksd WTD for taking the trouble to find a sloping bridge. I spent long time researching the subject lasdt night and found no evidence of railways building bridges corrying track which are sloping. Have got over the problem today by rerouting the main line so I can build a level bridge and still keep the gradient around 1 in 60 on the embankment.

Re: slopping bridge.
No trouble finding it, it’s our local station. There must be cases of track on a gradient crossing a bridge but real real railways tend to have much shallower gradients than model ones

Re: slopping bridge.
The line from Aviemore to Inverness climbs out of Aviemore and there is a slopping rail bridge where it crosses the A95

Thamks for information Forarian. That is the only rail track corrying sloping bridge so far confirmed. I have now decided to re plan the end BB so main line takes diferent route which solved the problem and I now have a level bridge which looks better.

Re: slopping bridge.
If you must have a sloping bridge due to whatever factors, then simply fudge the adjacent scenery to fool the eye that the bridge is flat. There are real roads that make you think you are going downhill when in fact it is an ascending grade.
Re: slopping bridge.
I did something like that on my layout - the bridge parapets are level but the track bed slopes down from left to right.

Re: slopping bridge.
Not brilliant - lucky. I got greedy with the over bridge to the left of the river and had to raise the track there by 1/2". Had to accept the wobbly bridge or redesign a major part of the corner baseboard.sandy wrote: ↑Wed Oct 13, 2021 10:58 pmWhy didn't Ithink of that.
