I dont know if anyone else does this but after firework night i take a walk around the neighbourhood and pick up the used rockets because they have a nice wooden stick which makes nice timber loads or building timbers.

They also make great retaining walls for dock side scenes too

I have been doing that for a few years. They are nice square sticks. Useful!
