We have been here at the new cottage now since the 12 October and all our stuff is unpacked and the house is tidy, The back bedroom is where my layout is going and that is still in boxes. Only got space of 9ft x 6ft 7" max, so it is going to be small. Have brought my old boards with me from the old house so will be chopping them about to fit the new room. Going to measure up and order the timber for the new supports next week. after couple of weeks once I get started will posting some pictures on here. I am looking forward to getting started on the railway. At last.
Funny thing is SWMBO and I were watching The Great Model Railway Challenge on the box other day and she said to me, would she be able to do anything to help with the building of this one. I was surprised as she has never seemed to be interested before so I am looking forwardto have some help building it . So looks though this one will be a joint effort. ......................John

Excellent result if the other half can get involved and enjoys it.

Glad in you your new house and getting sorted. You will be relieved to get the trains running again. Good luck with SWMBO, double edged sword maybe? :D

i would be terrified if heather asked to help. She might want a favour in return, like me going in the kitchen I avoid that room like she avoids my train room

I have a lock on the inside of the shed door - saves a lot of problems. :D

Good for you and your OH John, i can't believe how negative you lot can be, what's the worst that can happen, apart from John losing his layout and the missus claiming it for herself

Hi footplate,
Tweedside Timber in Berwick-on-Tweed are good - you can choose the timber and see that it is straight and not too knotty. They don't cut to size as far as i know, but they will lend you a saw!!
Happy building.
Ted

Thanks for that twalton, will check them out. Helpful indeed as we don't know the area very well having just arrived.

Hi John - my layout Wykeham is in the back bedroom - 10x7, so only a few inches bigger than the space you have available - it should not be a problem at all. If you limit your board width to say 18inches, you can run around three sides of the room, you could go right round, but the door may be a problem - re-hang it to open onto the landing. The other slight problem with small rooms is getting the largest radius possible for the curves. I'm sure you'll be up and running before you know it. BB

Door? Nah, don't need one of those new fangled things getting in the way!
