Wiring Gaugemaster seep point motor

#1

Post by sandy »

Have been prepairing the point motors ready to connect to my points which are a mix of insualfrog and electro frog. Using PM1 with frog switching and Pm2 without switching for the insulfrog points. It took me ages to figer out what all the terminals on the point motors were for but got there in the end. I hope. I firstly converted the electro frog points so the frogs were isolated and droppers were fitted across the the outer rails so power was not relying on the fish plates.
Then wired the motor A C D E F B terminals were wired as follows. You can use whatever colours you like to suiet yourself.
Cerntre off sprung switch, centre pin wired to CDU + if using one.
From the point motor as follows.
A Red to switch
C Black CDU Neg
D Green to Bus Poz rail
E Green to BUS Neg rail
F Green to Frog
B Black to Switch.
If anyone gets as confused as I did trying to understand Gaugemaster instruction sheet then I hoper this will help.
Of course PM2 for insual frog point do not use D&E contacts.

Hi

You're correct for all the PM1, 2 & 4 range... 'A' & 'B' are the two operation feeds left or right, while 'C' is the return.
On the PM1 and PM4 'F' is to Frog while the track feeds connect to 'D' & 'E'.

It should be noted that the connections on D & E will depend on which way around the Seep has been mounted. One way D is to the left hand rail but turn the motor around 180 degrees and E is then to the left hand rail (Right rail to the other pad). :D

Thanks Brian for pointing that out. Yes I was not sure which way round the motors will be mounted so I have used connection strips about 4 inches from motor making it simple to connect if D & E need to be reversed. So after mounting the point and motor the wires from the point and switch can be wired to the connecting strips so no soldering will be nessary under the baseboard. Personally I find it hard working under the BB at my age and expect others have same problem. Only tinning the wires which can be done on the bench.
My reason for posting this was to try and make the wiring easy to understand so that any idiots like me can see at a glance what goes were as most instruction sheets take an electrical engineer to understand..

I may be younger than you but my hips are not very good and even if I get down there I can't get up again sometimes. I was thinking of getting a sleeping bag and spending the nights under the layout. untill the wiring is finnished :D

I know how you feel. Would be nice to just flip the whole layout over.

I know exactly how you feel Sandy! I purchased a Car Creeper to lay on when working under my baseboards. Its lovely to "Scoot" about and be able to reach everything easily. Its just getting off the darn thing and standing up that's the problem!!! :o

Ha Ha! Know exactly what you mean my knees have given up on me. I usually have a step ladder nearby when working at floor level or under something so I can use my hands to haul the rest of me up. Fortunately the knees are not arthritic (yet) so I can manage a few steps on them to reach the step ladder. As they say round here “Nowt down for getting owd” translates to “there nothing good about getting old”. Must go and have my nap now :D

Not just me then than can get down but need help in getting back up! I always make sure there is something nearbye to help before I get down, else it's yell "Help" to the missus lol. If it's going to be a big job I designed mine so I can turn it on it's side.
Most people are shocked when they find out how bad I am as an electrician
