Re: Barry Island.
Nostalgic video. I spent a day at the yard in September 1972. I wrote to Dai Woodham and asked if I could visit - he said yes as long as I didn't nick anything - I don't think a Merchant Navy Class would fit in a Ford Anglia boot At that time there were still a lot of loco's there. Although one or two had moved on, the bulk of what he bought for scrap was still there. The place was deserted (it was a working weekday), and I met just one local guy, who told me he had a photograph of every loco that went into the yard.

Re: Barry Island.
Visited Barry scrapyard once during a School Railway Society weekend trip to South Wales. Can't remember the exact year, but probably 1970 or 1971.
Would never have believed back then that so many of the locos we saw would be saved and restored.
Also remember another weekend trip to Glasgow and Edinburgh (loads of Clayton Type 1s) as well as several day trips to Derbyshire and Yorkshire among others.
