Is this the one where the licence is held on a thumb drive? If so, I believe you get an email with a link to update your current licence on that. R-

It was a long time ago since I dabbled in Train Controller but yes, I think we’re on the same page. Presumably there will be a confirmation of purchase email with a download link. I was under the impression that it updated the licence on the thumb drive as TC would not work unless it was plugged in. R-

Version 10 licence key will come via email - may take a day or 2. It will be activated via the internet, and from then on every time you start TC it will validate via the internet. Thumb drives are no longer used with V10, and if you upgrade from V9 to V10 you will need to destroy the thumb drive.

Regarding the code it came be email I then had to cut the memory stick in half then write my name and the date on a piece of paper and place the stick on it and take a photo of it and send it to Railroad & co and now it's working fine.

Good grief! For such an expensive piece of software that is frankly bizarre. R-

Indeed it is, but without destroying the stick it could be simply passed on to one of your mates who would then have a full free licence for V9.
