My son bought himself a Class 47 with his Christmas money and it struck me that he's never seen a real freight train.
My question is, how do I find out about what freight trains we have in the south east and where to go to try and see one? Is there a timetable you can view online or a forum which will give the best locations to see them.
Personally I want to see a class 37 (never seen one) but fat chance of this in the south east which means a day or two away from home. I will do this one day but am looking for somewhere my son and I can do a day trip too.
Any help gratefully received.
Dave

Re: Freight Trains in the South East
Rugby is/was always good for freight and container traffic which most freight is nowadays. Southampton and I seem to remember Stratford near the London Olympic park. None exactly SE.
Nurse, the screens!

We get a few freight trains along the Medway Valley and out to the Isle of Grain. I would assume that some may also come from the Channel Tunnel connection at Ashford.
"Not very stable, but incredibly versatile."

Sorry just realised I never responded.
Thanks for the input. I haven't managed to put a plan together yet but am moving forward.
I found this website,

Trying to get my head around it LOL

Re: Freight Trains in the South East
we sometimes get them coming through Paddock Wood in kent pulled by older diesels. Dont know a whole lot about them as I'm really a steam fan but they even get me feeling a bit nostalgic

Thanks,
I sent a message to a chap called ajgossfilms on Instagram. He told me about a website called realtimetrains, it’s a wealth of information on freight services.
