jinty problem

my beloved jinty cut out, so i decided to clean service it and renew all wiring and put new brush's in .i benched tested the motor and all seemed fine ,remounted on to the chassis and all worked when i pushed the current collectors in then it stopped, i pulled them back out and the motor ran fine again. I would be grateful for any advice

So, when you apply power to the copper strips, it's fine. When you put them onto the chassis, the loco is dead or shorts out?
Could you get a picture of the other side of the loco?

Scroll down and check the wiring as per diagram. It looks like you have the wiring wrong.

Did you remove the wheels. The connecting rods in the picture are upside down. Have you put the wheels back the wrong way round. The wheels on one side are insulated from the axles. On the connecting rods the little square bits should be on the top.

One of my little niggles Stese. You often see them fitted upside down on models.

how can you tell which side of the axle is insulated ,i am a new to the game

Try turning the whole wheel assembly over and refitting it. On one side the wheels are attached directly to the axle metal to metal. On the other there is a plastic sleeve between the wheel and axle. That is of course assuming you removed the wheel set. Did you?
