Those who have seen my last post on Neptune Street will be aware that the latest project is a street of terraced houses, or terraces of houses, much akin to Horsley Bank (other layouts are available )



Wanting something beyond card built products I did have my eye on Inthegreenwood laser cut terraced houses, but being unable to contact them by either via their website, by email, or by phone I’m beginning to think they may have ceased trading.

So, as I can’t seem to find any similar products, I’m now beginning to think that I’m going to have to go down the scratch built road (no pun intended), more than likely using brick sheets. Can anyone point me in the direction of any scale drawings of something I can used as a base template as a starting point.

Carl, Google 'elevation plan terrace houses' or 'elevation plan Victorian terrace houses' and quite a few images pop up.
Alternatively go 'old school' and count bricks to determine size from photos. Brick length and door heights tend to be fairly standard so a bit of maths should get you in the ballpark.

Brick counting does not work on stone built houses as although individual courses can be even the stone sizes do vary. Here in West Yorkshire where there tends to be a lot of sandstone built houses you can see that lower courses are often taller stones and getting narrower the higher you go and that is taking perspective into account. Of course there is the exception to the rule where all courses are the same but it is noticeable how often houses are built as described above. I suppose it comes down to quarrying stone means you are dealing with irregular shaped material so you may get some stone cut to one size and to avoid waste produce alternate sizes.
