Royal Mail tracking
I have bought a loco on ebay last weekend and could not believe it. Nothing arrived yesterday in post but got message that parcel had arrived and I checked the tracking only to find that it had been signed for by some body in Northern Ireland from Londonderry Delivery Office area . Now I live in Northumberland England. Low and behold this morning it arrived on my step with a different tracking number on it and signed for by me. The postman never asked me to sign for anything so either he or somebody else signed it or it was done by magic. What a mess the post office is in it seems. The good thing is my loco got here at last and in good condition. I must say that ebay were very helpful sorting things out once they answered the phone that is. Took nearly 3/4 hour to answer phone...................John

How strange John. I don’t think Royal Mail are in a mess. Over the last few years I have posted dozens of locos second class and the majority arrived next day. Every company has the odd hiccup.

Yes I do agree Brian, and I to have bought from various places over the years and have been lucky and lost nothing. But after speaking to ebay last night it seems that this sort of thing according to them is not unusual at all. Often things go missing completely. I can only relate what I was told by them when we spoke last night. As for some body forging my signature, well, there is no excuse for that. I have logged a complaint. John

I agree it is very odd. Mind you our post person often signs for us if he gets no reply and can post it through the letter box. Have you ever actually managed to sign one of those machines with a signature that looks like yours?

Re: Royal Mail tracking
Royal Mail have several products where 'tracking' is involved. Not all of them need signing for.
Like WTD's postman I used to sign for items where they could be left in safety. As it's a 'sacking offence' you need to trust the customer!!

No John, that means you don’t have to traipse down to the sorting office to collect it. Bit daft when you know the postman and he knows you.

Re: Royal Mail tracking
We've asked our Hermes courier to do the same - sign for it and put it in the log box. Saves a lot of hassle, but yes you do have to get to know the postman and the courier well to allow it. R-

Re: Royal Mail tracking
All is now resolved and what happened was (I was told) was the seller had sent the wrong number to ebay. But I still do not agree with forgery, but do agree that it is OK for you to give permission to a delivery or postman that you know to do that.
